PFOA & PFOS Drinking Water Health Advisories
To provide Americans, including the most sensitive populations, with a margin of protection from a lifetime of exposure to PFOA and PFOS from drinking water, EPA established the health advisory levels at 70 parts per trillion. When both PFOA and PFOS are found in drinking water, the combined concentrations of PFOA and PFOS should be compared with the 70 parts per trillion health advisory level. This health advisory level offers a margin of protection for all Americans throughout their life from adverse health effects resulting from exposure to PFOA and PFOS in drinking water.
Suspected Effects of Long Term Exposure
· affects the developing fetus and child, including possible changes in growth, learning, and behavior.
· decrease fertility and interfere with the body’s natural hormones,
· increase cholesterol,
· affect the immune system, and
· increase cancer risk.
Treatment Options for PFC’s in Water
Ion Exchange - exchange of ions between a solid substance (called a resin) and an aqueous solution. We are having the best the best treatment results with the Purofine PFA694E. A proprietary resin with the dual removal mechanism of ion exchange and adsorption technology built into each bead for maximum uptake of PFASs. Water treated with this resin will consistently achieve non-detectable levels of both short- and long chain PFASs—including PFOA and PFOS—that are well below the current Health Advisory recommendations set by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
Activated Carbon - Activated carbon is commonly used to adsorb natural organic compounds, taste and odor compounds, and synthetic organic chemicals in drinking water treatment. Adsorption is both the physical and chemical process of accumulating a substance at the interface between liquid and solids phases. PFOS_PFOA Treatment has Obtained Super Structed Activated Carbon (SAC) is an effective adsorbent because it’s porosity has been modified to fore an extremely porous material and provides a large surface area to which PFOS and PFOA can be adsorbed. The two main types of activated carbon used in PFC treatment applications are Coconut Shell granular activated carbon and Bituminous carbon.
Electrolytic Technologies (EC)
EC's are used for treatment of PFOS‐PFOA in groundwater and wastewater applications. Electrolytic Technologies are based upon the basic principles of Electrolysis, Adsorption and Co‐Precipitation. Technologies use a low Voltage electric current to destabilize multiple contaminates simultaneously via a single unit process. Both dissolved and suspended contaminates are removed including heavy metals, emulsions are split and water soluble hydrocarbons (BTEX) are oxidized. PFOA and PFOS compounds may be removed by two distinct pathways (1) Electrolytic Precipitation results in Adsorption of contaminates to the active flocculate generated within the reactor and Co-Precipitation of same and (2) Electrolytic Oxidation of contaminates Directly to the Anode surface and Indirectly by subsequent reaction with secondary oxidants formed within the Reactor
Why Use us
Providing Groundwater Remediation Solutions since 1985
Our company's Engineers have been performing Groundwater Remediation and Wastewater Treatment since 1985. We have worked on four continents. Use our expertise to solve your most difficult problems. We are already working on Multiple sites treating up to 1000 gpm water treated with PFOS and PFOA. Another site site we have is a 1,000,000 PPT PFOS-PFOA treatment system. We are currently working on sites with the Air Force,Navy and the Marines on 6 sites
